Melfort Traditional Oils

Traditional Fats

Tinashe from Melfort Oils has just sent us some information about the lard and tallow. The lard he makes from the fat of free-range pork and the tallow using the fat from our own Kalahari 100% grass fed beef so we know it is from wholly veldt reared cattle.
You really want to try this for roasting your potatoes. I’ll include a resource list at the end of this article about traditional animal fats and why you may want to include them in your diet.

Melfort Free-Range Lard (Pork)

Melfort Free-Range Lard is open-kettle rendered at low temperatures to give you a pure, natural, unadulterated, mildly fragrant cooking oil. We only use the finest free-range leaf lard in the making of our product and our traditional methods give you an unbleached, non-hydrogenatated, non-deoderised Lard of the highest quality.
Lard is particularly prized by bakers for producing moist, flaky and wonderfully textured pastry and pie crusts. Melfort Free-Range Lard can be used for all your cooking needs, try it with your scrambled or fried eggs. This is a great cooking oil for home chefs and paleo diet adherents alike.

Kalahari 100% Grass Fed Beef Tallow

Melfort Grass-Fed Beef Tallow is open-kettle rendered at low temperatures to give you a pure, natural, unadulterated, mildly fragrant cooking oil. We only use the finest grass-fed suet from Kalahari beef in the making of our product. Our traditional methods give you an unbleached, non-hydrogenatated, non-deoderised tallow of the highest quality.
Tallow is incredibly stable, making it ideal for deep frying. Tallow is an ideal replacement for any recipe that calls for any cooking oil or fat. It is particularly great for browning meat for stews, curries, mince dishes and potjiekos. This is a great cooking oil for home chefs and paleo diet adherents alike.
I thought I’d also add a resource list for you of where to get more information on why animal fat from pastured animals can be a good addition to your diet.
