We’ve also just got certified organic broccolli in, please think about making broccolli soup this Winter, I’ll re-post a recipe we got from Alpha Farms some time ago that you can try.
I’ll also re-post some lamb recipes for you to try with the new lamb in…
I’m trying my level best to get our ordering right, it’s been such a tricky thing to manage, hopefully though, you’ll all be able to get what you need….orders in before 12pm today will be ready this afternoon..after 12pm, we’ll have it ready for you by tomorrow.
Please recruit more members to the movement. The bottom line is that the greater the demand for sustainable organic farm produce, the greater the risks we can take with our ordering levels and the more we can incent great farms to do it properly and put animals back on pasture and get toxic pesticides and fertilizers away from our food.
I know that it gets frustrating when we aren’t fully stocked.
Please trust me there is nobody more frustrated than I am with the fact that we can’t pick and choose from a wide selection of green farms, I have dedicated 4 years of my life and sacrificed a fair deal of sanity and more, to getting organic food as accessible as possible in this nuty town we inhabit.
True nature though, is not a conveyor belt of convenience and efficiency. She is rather a system of cycles, ebb and flow.
Selling real food that doesn’t come off a conveyor belt, is an entirely inefficient, entirely inconvenientyet entirely vital business.
I am not able to convincingly defend the fact that we aren’t fully stocked with everything you need.
I am selling nature’s produce. I am representing the best and most committted farmers we can find. There aren’t at this point in time too many of them.
We are an expanding customer base, yet we are still small and those dedicated farmers battle with the logistics of trying to do things properly for a small customer base. This is not your average convenience store. It isn’t at all convenient for now, in fact. We are selling live produce from the earth or raised on pasture. I can’t provide a steady stream of availability like we can when we’re selling sellotape, paper or conventionally produced efficient food.
We know what those efficiencies cost the earth, that’s why we’re here.
My commmitment to you is that I stand for a revolution in the values around nutrition, nature, farming, the soil, quality, craft and sustainability because I care six trilliion tosses about the state I leave this world in to my children, my grandchildren and beyond.
I will do – and have done – my utmost to get you the best of what’s out there from the best farms. I promise you that what we get will be the best this country has to offer. Right now, though, we are building a movement, this is a very real revolution. We are swimming upstream and turning the tide on old ways of doing things. We are at the beginning still….this is still a young and infant movement.
I have one each right now of farms and groups that I’m confidant to say are raising naturally reared, wholly pastured animals, on the chicken, lamb and beef side. I don’t have other options when there isn’t enough to go round from these farms or when something goes wrong. We have a small compliment of true organic farms supplying us with seasona produce. I can’t get you tomatoes in July, unless we truck them in from Zambia which is totally counter productive to the green movement. We have to eat what’s in season and there aren’t more than a handful of these farms around right now because the fact of it, is that most people aren’t too concerned about what they’re feeding their families and conveyor belt manufactured ‘products’ filled with chemical additives and preservatives has become the norm.
We do need to be cognisant of the fact that this is indeed a revolution. It is a global revolution back to valuing tradional food, organic farmers, the environment and solid nutrition but it is very early days still in Jozi…we are co-creating this day by day, week by week. I will do my level best to get what we can and to use my strengths to expand this movement but ultimately this is an act of community. It is larger than a few of us.
I am currently trying to find better ways to model things differently so that I can get out there and dedicate more of my time to the activism, education, cooking, teaching, assisting you with your journey and the education peace as well sourcing new farms and connecting you with those great farmers. When I’m there, I will create a more solid space for you to engage as a community. For now though, it’s a day by day, week by week affair and I am doing what I can to address the barriers to this so that it gets easier and easier to get your hands on real organic food.
I will only partner with people too, that I believe can assist this cause and provide expertise to make the provision of real food, raised and grown sustainalby and involving only the best foods craftsmen and ethical farmers who pasture animals naturally, more and more readily available…They are out there and slowly but surely a very committed community is coming together….
I have found us another free-range chicken option that we can have alongside Mandy’s while we wait for the next batch of chickens to grow up. Croft chicken will be sending us stock in tomorrow. Mandy too, is trying to grow bit by bit without compromising on her standards to meet your demand. It’s a fine line. She’s prepared, with us, to walk it.
I am eternally grateful for everybody who is in this with us. As a customer or even just a sharer of information, you are co-creating the food revolution so that bit by bit we re-build a food community in Jozi…a vibrant food culture closely connected to nature, fertile soil, deep nutrition from our best supporting farmers. It takes each and every one of us.
Thank you for being a part of this and for building this with me, brick by brick, vote by vote.
Please like our pages on Fb https://www.facebook.com/pages/Organic-Emporium-Natural-and-Whole-Food/190802747609740?fref=ts so that we can increase awareness, share articles with friends, each time we get a new recruit, we move a pace forward and it means I can motivate farms to give us more and I can get better volumes in for you. For us.
It isn’t the easiest ride, but it is vital and rewarding, let’s just push on forward, chat to me and let’s keep pushing on to create a day when organic, real, whole food and deep nutrition is a norm…
